WritSpeak vs ChatGPT for IELTS Writing and Speaking
ChatGPT is a general AI assistant. It can explain grammar, suggest ideas and comment on an essay if you ask it well. WritSpeak is built for one job: IELTS Writing and Speaking practice, with the same steps every time.
What research says: one 2024 study found ChatGPT's IELTS Task 2 scores agreed well with official examiners on average, with some large individual differences. A 2025 study found ChatGPT gave lower scores than human raters and was not yet ready for practical use. In short, AI marking can help you practise, but no AI score is exact.

Where ChatGPT is better
- It can do almost anything: brainstorm ideas, explain a rule five different ways, role-play a conversation, help with other subjects.
- You can ask follow-up questions freely, in any language.
- If you already pay for it, there is no extra cost.
Where WritSpeak is better
- The same IELTS rules and the same feedback format every time, so results are easier to compare from week to week.
- Every mistake it lists is checked against your own words, and "fix and resubmit" shows which mistakes you really fixed.
- Speaking from your real recording, with Part 1, 2 and 3 timing and a full test. Pronunciation is never "scored" from text.
- Built for B1–B2 learners in Kazakhstan, with a real IELTS teacher available for marking.
Which should you choose?
Choose ChatGPT if you want a flexible study partner for many subjects and are comfortable writing detailed prompts.
Choose WritSpeak if you want quick, consistent IELTS Writing and Speaking feedback and proof that your fixes worked.
Many learners use both. Whatever you choose, remember that every AI score is an estimate, not an official IELTS result. We have not yet published a test of WritSpeak's estimates against a teacher's marks; when we do, it will be linked here.
