How words are counted here
This tool counts groups of characters separated by spaces, which is how most word processors count. The exact counting rules in the real test may differ slightly, for example for numbers or hyphenated words, so aim for 10–20 words above the minimum rather than exactly on it.
Is longer better?
No. After the minimum, quality matters much more than length. A clear, well-organised 270-word Task 2 essay usually does better than a 400-word essay with more mistakes, and writing too much leaves less time to check your work.
