Writing Task 2
Question: Some people think university education should be free for everyone. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Strengths
- A clear position is stated in the introduction and repeated in the conclusion.
- Each paragraph has one main idea, and the linking is mostly natural.
- Topic vocabulary such as "tuition fees" and "subsidised" is used accurately.
What to improve
- The second body paragraph states an idea but gives no example, so it stays general.
- Complex sentences often contain small grammar slips that distract the reader.
Your three most important fixes
Original: "Students who study for free is more motivated."
Better: "Students who study for free are more motivated."
The subject "students" is plural, so the verb needs "are".
Original: "Another reason is that, the government should invest in education."
Better: "Another reason is that the government should invest in education."
No comma is needed after "that" here.
Original: "This will make a lot of benefits for society."
Better: "This will bring many benefits to society."
"Make benefits" is not a natural combination; "bring benefits" is.
Vocabulary and grammar
You use some precise phrases already. Try replacing repeated "good" and "bad" with "beneficial" and "harmful" where they fit, and practise subject-verb agreement in longer sentences.
Next step
Add one specific example to your second paragraph, then check again to see which fixes you made.
Speaking Part 2
Cue card: Describe a skill that took you a long time to learn.
Pronunciation: not assessed. WritSpeak marks the transcript, so there is no overall Speaking band.
What we heard (transcript excerpt)
"I learned to play the guitar when I was fifteen year old. At first it was very difficult because my fingers was sore, but I practised every day and step by step I became better."
Fixes
"fifteen year old"
"fifteen years old"
Use the plural "years" with a number above one.
"my fingers was sore"
"my fingers were sore"
"Fingers" is plural, so use "were".
Advice
Your story is easy to follow. To reach a higher band, add a little more detail after each main point and use a wider range of linking phrases.
